Rather than provide a drug-based intervention, the device uses a physical process termed Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure, which is a combination of vibration of the airways and an increase in endobronchial pressure that results in upward movement of trapped mucus in the lungs for expulsion through coughing or swallowing.
