Protection of intellectual property is much more than filing and prosecution of patent and trade mark applications. Understanding the context of a client’s intellectual property is of great value, and an interest in the commercial direction and development of the technology associated with that intellectual property ensures that our clients receive relevant, practical and cost-effective advice.
Clarissa is an Australian patent and trademark attorney based in Brisbane. She has more than 14 years’ experience in the intellectual property field. Clarissa specializes in chemical, pharmaceutical, food, medical and agricultural innovations.
Clarissa complete undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Chemistry from the University of Cape Town. Clarissa’s research studies include the synthesis of estradiol and estriol analogues, and in particular synthetic methodology focused on production of orally active analogues of estradiol for medical applications such as contraception and cancer treatment.
Starting her IP career in private practice, Clarissa worked for many major international and local clients, providing expert services in the drafting and prosecution of patents and trademarks, as well as opposition and litigation proceedings.
Clarissa also has substantial in-house experience, having worked for The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) for five years. In that role, she played a pivotal role in identifying and protecting CSIRO’s intellectual property in the food, agriculture, health, biosecurity, and energy space.
She also advised on commercial aspects of these technologies, including: opinions on patentability and freedom to operate; patent landscapes; licensing terms and competitor analyses. Clarissa provides this balanced outlook in her approach to all new innovations in her care.
